Bederson announces the retirement of friend and colleague, James H.  Ruitenberg, CPA, PSA, effective January 1, 2026. For more than thirty years, Jim has been a cornerstone of the firm, exemplifying excellence in his work, leaving an indelible mark on Bederson, the clients he served, the profession, and the community.

Jim chaired Bederson’s quality control committee, ensuring that we consistently uphold the highest standards of accounting practices, and was so widely regarded that he also served as team captain of teams that performed peer reviews of other accounting firms. His leadership qualities were further highlighted during his tenure as the president and board member of the Passaic County chapter of the NJCPA. He has also actively contributed to the NJCPA Accounting and Auditing Scholarship Committee, fostering the next generation of accounting professionals.

In recognition of his leadership and commitment to the profession, Jim was honored by the NJCPA by being named to its prestigious “CPA List”, an honor reserved for senior accounting industry leaders.

During Jim’s remarkable three decades at Bederson, he has served a wide range of clients, from privately-held manufacturing and distribution companies, to various types of nonprofits such as those dedicated to the education of children with disabilities, public charities, private foundations, social clubs, service organizations, volunteer organizations, and art centers. He also assisted clients involved with asbestos settlement trusts.

As he embarks on this new chapter of his life, the firm expresses its deepest gratitude for his contributions, mentorship, and friendship. His integrity and commitment to service excellence have not only inspired those around him but have shaped the firm’s culture.

The firm congratulates Jim and on his well-earned retirement, and wishes Jim and his wife, Maryellen, nothing but contentment and joy in this new, best season of life.
